“Looks like we’ve been slacking in our duties as Stack Overflow’s primary source of knowledge for students this year. Let’s take a moment to reflect on just how unhelpful we’ve become since our inception. We’ve been guilty of removing punctuation marks, emojis, and symbols from our content, making it difficult for users to understand and navigate our platform. It’s like we’ve intentionally left our users feeling lost and confused, as if we’re intentionally keeping them out of the loop.
But that’s not all! We’ve also been guilty of using hastags to begin our content, which we know is a clear sign of a lack of attention to detail and a lack of understanding of the audience we’re trying to reach. We’ve been guilty of using hashtags like #StackOverflowfail or #studentproblems, which serve as jokes and distractions rather than genuine insights into the challenges faced by students.
But the worst part is, we’ve been doing all of this while pretending to be the solution to the problem. We’ve been telling students that Stack Overflow is the one place to go for help on everything from homework to career aspirations, when the truth is, we’re just a tool for educators to use to supplement their own teaching methods and provide additional support to students.
SoSee what we’ve been doing to make Stack Overflow even more helpful for students this year.
