Deciding To Build As Beautifully As We Ever Have

Okay, here’s the rewritten blog post:

**The Lost Art of Beautiful Design: A Survey of US Buildings**

For years, the pursuit of breathtaking aesthetics has been a relentless quest. We’ve seen the rise of innovative designs, the allure of stunning exteriors, and the promise of a future where buildings are not just structures, but truly captivating works of art. And while the idea of building beautiful places in the US is certainly inspiring, I’ve been tasked with meticulously compiling a survey of these buildings, hoping to uncover some common ground and, perhaps, some missed opportunities.

The survey, titled “What Makes a Beautiful Building?”, is a three-part series, starting in New England, the Northeast, and the Mid Atlantic. It aims to expose the inherent flaws in our current architectural landscape.

**The Survey’s Core Principles:**

* **Architectural Innovation:** We’ll be focusing on buildings that have actively innovated their designs, incorporating new technologies, sustainable practices, or innovative approaches to construction.
* **Sustainability:** We’ll delve into buildings that prioritize environmental responsibility, energy efficiency, and the use of locally sourced materials.
* **Community Engagement:** We’ll consider the social and cultural impact of these buildings, including their role in local communities and their connection to the natural environment.

**The Findings:**

While the survey reveals a range of impressive designs, I’ve found some common threads and intriguing questions. Here are some of the key areas I’m hoping to uncover:

* **The Importance of Collaboration:** The survey highlights the crucial role of collaboration between architects, engineers, and local communities in shaping the future of buildings.
* **The Challenges of Sustainable Construction:** We’ll examine how sustainable construction practices are being implemented in some of these buildings, including the use of renewable energy, water conservation, and waste reduction.
* **The Importance of Accessibility and Inclusion:** We’ll explore how accessibility and inclusion of diverse building types and styles are being incorporated into the design process.
* **The Impact of Local Context:** We’ll consider the cultural and historical significance of these buildings, their connection to local communities, and their role in shaping the identity of the region.

**My Advice to You:**

I’m curious to hear your thoughts on these findings. Are there any buildings that particularly resonate with you? Are there any projects that you think would be particularly impactful to the design process? What are your hopes for the future of architecture in the United States?

I’m eager to hear your perspectives and provide you with valuable insights. Let’s work together to create a more beautiful and sustainable future for our cities!

Many believe that we can no longer build beautiful places in the US. This is simply wrong. In order to prove that there are still magnificent structures being created, I compiled a survey of these buildings in the first of a three part series, starting in New England, the Northeast, and the Mid Atlantic.

Let me know if there are any worthy buildings constructed in the last 10-20 years that I’ve missed, and would love to know your thoughts on the piece generally!
