## Post-Dezeen: A Stale Outlook on Baghdad’s Sustainable Forest Project
The latest edition of our weekly Dezeen Agenda newsletter continues to be a welcome distraction, but I’m starting to feel a little… stuck. My thoughts on Baghdad’s sustainable forest project are, frankly, a little stale.
We’ve got the big picture, the impressive skyline, and the promising signs of future growth. But the real question is: is this truly a sustainable future? Is it a green, thriving city that can breathe and thrive alongside its environment? I’m not sure.
The architecture studio Gensler’s Baghdad Sustainable Forests project in Baghdad, Iraq, is a fantastic example of what we can achieve when we approach sustainability from a holistic and forward-thinking perspective. The sheer scale of the project is impressive, and the focus on creating landmark towers with residential, retail, and commercial spaces surrounded by parks and green corridors is a testament to the power of sustainable design.
The news of Nicholas Grimshaw’s groundbreaking work in industrial design is also genuinely fascinating. His interview with Bruce Hannah and the prototype 3D printer that turns food waste into household objects is a thrilling glimpse into the future of sustainable technology. It’s a testament to the ingenuity and dedication of the professionals who are shaping the city’s future.
However, the project’s success is far from guaranteed. The environmental impact of the project is still being assessed, and we need to be mindful of the potential consequences of our actions. It’s a complex and evolving landscape, and I’m concerned about the long-term viability of this project.
Perhaps the most important thing I’m hoping for is that the project is not just a success, but a success in its own right. A project that actively promotes sustainable practices, fosters innovation, and helps to create a more resilient and livable urban environment for future generations.
So, while I admire the vision of the Baghdad Sustainable Forests project, I’m still a little unsure about its true potential. It’s a promising venture, but it’s important to have a balanced perspective on the future of our cities.
I’ll continue to monitor the project’s progress, and I’ll be sure to share any updates I receive. Stay tuned!
